Still World Images is documentary and
fine art photography that maintains journalistic ethics and integrity.
The images are intended to remind those who view them that grace
and beauty are everywhere, and that stories worth hearing are all
around us.
All images are the photographic
work of West Virgina native, Ian Benson. Born and raised in Morgantown,
Ian developed an interest
in art and nature from his many visits to state forests and parks
as a child. He took as many art classes as his schedule would allow,
eventually finding an introduction to darkroom principles and photography
as part of a visual communications course in high school. He also
studied sociology, psychology, human physiology and graphic design,
but photography was a part of his schedule through graduation.
Ian's employment history
is as eclectic as his personal interests, having included everything
from chef, landscaper, video clerk,
construction laborer, mental health assistant and even security
guard. Shortly after enrolling as a student at West Virginia
University, Ian was hired as a photographer for The Daily Athenaeum
and has
been shooting ever since. He has been a professional news photographer
and member of the National Press Photographers Association since
2001, working for local publications such as The Dominion Post,
The Exponent-Telegram, and West Virginia University Photographic
Services. Ian has also worked as a stringer and freelance photographer
for Response magazine, the Associated Press, and All-Pro Photography.
Recently, Ian worked as Photography director for Michaels Media
group to help develop photography departments for Community Calendar
USA magazines and the Masontown Telegraph newspaper. Currently,
Ian is employed at the West Virginia University Eye Institute
as an Ophthalmic Photographer, training to become a Certified
Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), and Certified Retinal Angiographer
(CRA). He is available for freelance assignments including candid
portrait and wedding photography, and is working independently
on documentary and fine art photography for Still World Images. Privacy Note:
